A Rare & Unique Single Origin
What is Peaberry?
A peaberry coffee bean is a unique and rare type of coffee bean that develops a single, round-shaped seed instead of the usual two flat-sided seeds found in most coffee cherries. In regular coffee cherries, two seeds grow together facing each other, but in peaberries, only one seed develops, creating a small, round bean.
What is Special about Peaberry?
Peaberry beans are often considered special and distinct due to their rounded shape and the belief by some that they offer a different flavor profile compared to regular coffee beans. Some coffee enthusiasts appreciate peaberry coffee for its perceived brightness, increased sweetness, and unique characteristics.
Why this Coffee Bean?
Last year, we had brought in the Sitio Roseria beans (main harvest) and the flavours were amazing. Thus, the discovery of their Peaberry beans during a cupping session heightened our expectations. True to our anticipation, this coffee exceeded our flavour expectations, delivering a jam-packed flavour experience within a single coffee seed. The rarity of this bean further fueled our decision to feature it in our 2024 coffee collection.
Key Reasons We Love This Single Origin
- Distinct Flavor: Concentrated flavours akin to the regular Sitio Roseira coffee beans.
- Limited Availability: Occurring naturally in only a small percentage of coffee cherries, peaberry coffees are regarded as more exclusive and rare, adding to their appeal.

Coffee Unveiled: The Farm, Producers
[The Sitio Roseira Farm]
Nestled in Lambari, Minas Gerais, the region of Serra da Mantiqueira region, the Sitio Roseira Farm benefits from a altitude of 1,200 meters, mountainous terrain, and a distinct climate- ideal for specialty coffee production. Leda and Jose Edvaldo da Silva, the dedicated producers, prioritise sustainable farming practices, preserving their diverse surroundings of natural springs and forests.
[About the Mantiqueira de Minas Region]
Situated in the southern part of Minas Gerais, Mantiqueira de Minas boasts fertile soils, ample sunlight, and elevations ranging from 900 to 1,500 meters. The region, part of the Serra da Mantiqueira micro-region, earned the geographical indication seal in 2023, highlighting the unique qualities attributed to its coffees.
[Processing Method]
Handpicked when ripe, the cherries are carefully sun-dried on concrete patios. The producers meticulously stir the cherries until reaching an ideal moisture content of 11%. While finalizing drying and fermentation on a neighbouring property, they dream of establishing their own facilities in the future. After this intricate process, the cherries rest in wooden bins for at least 30 days, imparting a rich, dry fruit flavour and enhancing the coffee’s body.
